Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Partners with Grand Prix of Cleveland

For the third year in a row, Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Corp. (SWAFC) has partnered with the Grand Prix of Cleveland as the official paint and automotive finishes sponsor supplying Planet Color(TM) finishes to all the race teams.

This year will be more exciting than ever with added events and the Cleveland debut of the new Panoz DP01 Champ Car. Featuring cutting-edge technologies in aerodynamics and chassis design, the world's best drivers now have a car that will run better in traffic and will be less affected by cars around them. These advancements are designed to produce closer racing and more passing opportunities to thrill the fans of the Cleveland Grand Prix.

The race will be in town June 22 through June 24 at Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport. Weekend activities include expanded racing events, a big-name concert, and a fresh viewpoint for race fans, the Infield Pit Area — an elevated walkway which will allow pedestrians to get even closer to the excitement.

“The Cleveland Grand Prix is one of our city’s most exciting traditions and Sherwin-Williams considers it a great honor to be one of the official sponsors,” said Tom Hablitzel, President, SWAFC. “Supplying the teams with our Planet Color finishes is a great way for us to be involved in the thrilling sport of open wheel racing. After all, it’s our paints that make the cars look so good and that is one of the reasons it can be so fun for fans to watch.”

As part of the multi-year partnership with the Champ Car World Series, all teams use Planet Color - a unique custom color paint line boasting optically-enhanced finishes and detailing.

“These custom finishes incorporate the latest technology, giving these colors real personality both on and off the track,” said Bobby Moody, Director of Motorsports, SWAFC. “Special effects cause the paints to look multi-dimensional, iridescent and extremely brilliant. We’re privileged to bring this innovation to Champ Car and to show it off during the Cleveland Grand Prix.”

During the weekend’s events, select Sherwin-Williams Automotive customers will have the opportunity to judge which cars look the best on the track with the ‘All in the Finish’ Color and Design Award. This $10,000 prize honors the Champ Car and Atlantic teams with the finest paint schemes and color designs.

In addition, the Grand Prix of Cleveland will also feature two all-new racing events, the Kumho Street Warriorz, a drag racing series, and the Formula Drift Championship, a high-powered motor sport requiring highly skilled vehicle maneuverability and control.

Fans will also be able to enjoy professional beach volleyball, the Cleveland Grand Prix Charities go-kart track, beer gardens, extreme sport demonstrations, the Miss Grand Prix of Cleveland contest, and live music from Cleveland legend Michael Stanley and the Resonators.
