BASF Sponsors Automotive Educational Day

BASF Automotive Refinish Solutions recently cooperated with Autorama and the International Show Car Association (ISCA), which sanctions the largest group of indoor car shows produced in the United States and Canada, to host an educational day for Michigan area students who participate in automotive classes.

“Automotive technology isn’t part of the curriculum at many learning institutions throughout the country. It’s very important that we continue to relay our knowledge and passion of automobiles to willing students in an attempt to make automotive education mainstream,” stated Bob Larivee, Jr.,CEO of Championship Auto Shows, Inc.

Brent Wallace, BASF Brand Marketing Manager, said, “BASF Automotive Refinish Solutions, already a sponsor of Autorama, extended support to this educational event because locating the next generation of collision repair specialists plays a major role in the future of our Industry. This event in particular focuses on students who already show an interest in automotive careers, and the intent is to build their excitement for a challenging and rewarding vocation in the automotive industry. We will continue to be a major supporter of education and training.”

According to the ISCA, 3,300 students representing more than 60 high schools and community colleges throughout Michigan and a few out of state institutions attended the 2008 event held at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan.

The goals of Autorama Educational Day are to:

  • Expose students to opportunities in the specialty automotive aftermarket industry that is reported to be a $34 billion industry
  • Allow students to view talents of the participants who have handcrafted many of the vehicles being shown at Autorama
  • Provides a forum for students to view firsthand many of North America’s finest show vehicles, many of which have been featured in magazines and television programs
  • Provides an opportunity for students to visit with many of the car owners and builders who have painstakingly completed their projects.
