CEI Blood Drive Sets Company Record
The CEI Group’s ninth American Red Cross blood drive set new company records in June for donations and participation. CEI employees donated 45 pints of blood, achieving 150 percent of the drive’s goal.“We’re very pleased to be helping our community, since most drives in the Philadelphia area aren’t even meeting their goals,” drive coordinator and CEI employee John O’Donnell said. “What is even more impressive is that we had 25.3 percent of our employees participate. To put that in perspective, the national average of eligible donors who have donated at least one pint is four percent.”
O’Donnell said since 2002, when CEI first started participating in the blood drive, the company’s employees have given 363 pints. “According to the Red Cross, that means we’ve helped to save nearly 1,100 lives,” he said.
According to the Red Cross, someone in America needs blood every two seconds. The organization serves as the bridge between over 4 million generous blood donors and millions of patients in need each year. It supplies 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers each year, and is responsible for 43 percent of the country’s blood supply.
