PPG Presents Dream Car Awards at Goodguys PPG Nationals

PPG honored two outstanding vehicles with the “PPG Dream Car” award at the recent 11th Annual Goodguys PPG Nationals, held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio. The two vehicles were a ’62 Chevy Bel Air owned by Dennis and Barbara McClendon of Mesa, Arizona; and a ’64 Chevy Nova, owned by Clinton Stratton of Louisville, Kentucky.

PPG Dream Car awards are given annually at the show to honor two vehicles that are judged to best demonstrate outstanding use of color, design, gloss and execution of the paint job. Both the McClendons and Stratton were excited to receive the awards.

Winner Dennis McClendon said, “I was thrilled. It’s quite an honor being recognized by a manufacturer like PPG. It’s better than winning a car show.”

Clinton Stratton commented, “I was just there to enjoy the show. Winning blew me away.”

The McClendons’ chopped top ’62 Chevy wears a striking Maserati Red and Mustang GT White finish. The paint scheme was created by RJ Customs of Chicago, Illinois. The car, named “Showlow,” features an array of custom fabricated and modified components – only the trunk lid, grill and headlight buckets are stock. Showlow has also received a number of other honors including being named a Boyd Coddington Pro Pick and winning the SEMA Best Engineered Vehicle award.

Stratton’s ’64 Chevy Nova has a stunning two-tone finish of Ford Infra Red and Chrysler Inferno Red. B&K Customs of Louisville, Kentucky, and Stratton designed the paint scheme. Stratton is a relative newcomer to custom car shows. The Dream Car award was his first national honor. However, he has successfully exhibited the Nova locally. The car was recently named a Carl Casper 2008 Top 20 pick.

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association is one of the world’s largest rod and custom associations with nearly 70,000 members nationwide. The association produces over 20 car shows and events annually, this year attracting more than 85,000 hot rod and street rod enthusiasts to the annual Nationals show in Columbus, Ohio. PPG exhibits at every national and many regional Goodguys events, and is the official paint supplier to the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association.
