Business Tools | Thursday September 18 PPG-Painted Alfa Romeo Named Best of Show at Pebble Beach Concours d’EleganceA 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta sporting a lustrous PPG finish took three top awards: “Best of Show,” “Best of Class,” and “Most Elegant” at the 58th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California in August. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the world’s premier celebration of the automobile. Only the most beautiful and rarest cars are invited to appear on the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links to see these masterpieces. The Alfa Romeo, owned by Jon and Mary Shirley of Medina, Washington, was meticulously restored by Dennison International Motorsports, in Puyallup, Washington, and painted by Byers Custom & Restoration, in Auburn, Washington. The 8C 2900B was Alfa Romeo’s most prestigious grand touring car of the 1930s. Only 33 examples were ever completed for road use. Byers Custom & Restoration painted the car a deep navy blue, using PPG’s Deltron(R) basecoat / clearcoat to restore the finish to Concours d’Elegance caliber. Owner Jon Byers has been using PPG coatings since 1983 and has attended a number of training sessions in color matching and custom painting. He has had at least one award winner at Pebble Beach every year since 1996. Byers commented, “Our customers want their classics to have the best. So we use PPG paint. It’s user-friendly and outstanding for color accuracy.” John Anderson, refinish instructor at PPG’s Kent, Washington Business Development Center said, “Winning one award at such a prominent show is remarkable. Taking three is extremely rare. This is equivalent to capturing the ‘Triple Crown’ in horse racing. We are very pleased that such a beautiful car was finished with our products. It shows that the best cars in the world look even better wearing PPG paint.” ©2008 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT | FEATURED
