NABC: October Is PRIDE Month

National Auto Body Council October has once again been designated by the National Auto Body Council (NABC) as Collision Repair Industry PRIDE Month. The objective of the event is to "provide a national annual event to serve as a focal point for mobilizing all segments of the Collision Repair Industry to attract attention to the good news about the industry and its people, and to generate positive interaction between members of the industry, and with their customers."

The NABC has petitioned the White House and the U.S. House of Representatives for official designation of the month, and is encouraging state and local auto body associations and NABC members to do the same with their state governments and any other local or regional authoritative body.

The event is intended primarily as an image enhancement activity. The NABC is distributing press releases and articles to the media, and information on local events and coverage should be forwarded to the NABC for national exposure.

The NABC suggests the following activities for member participation:

  • Public open houses held at repair facilities
  • Shop tours for students, guidance counselors, teachers, and parents
  • Promotional press releases for local media
  • Career awareness activities at vocational schools
  • Live radio and TV broadcasts from repair facilities
  • Speaking engagements at local clubs
  • Letters to state governors to designate October as PRIDE Month
  • Share plans with the NABC.

The NABC has a special NABC baseball jersey style shirt, a video that promotes the professionalism of the industry, customer education cards, hats, and posters available for member shops.

"Together, one by one, we will begin to turn the public’s negative general perception of our industry around," declared Mark Claypool, NABC executive director. "Focusing on the professionalism of our industry, giving the exteriors and lobbies of our shops a face-lift, making our facilities look more like high-tech laboratories than dirty, noisy, poorly-lit dungeons, we will earn the respect we have deserved all along. We at the NABC wish you the best of luck and urge you to keep up the great work."

Collision Repair Industry facilities are urged to celebrate our year-round commitment to:

  • Serving our customers well and earning their trust
  • Integrity and professionalism
  • Continuous improvement and training
  • Protecting the environment
  • Providing our employees with a rewarding, safe place to work
  • Community involvement.

The NABC will announce the opening of nominations for PRIDE awards this year at a press conference to be held in December at NACE 2000. Forms will be available then, and nominations will be accepted until March 1, 2001. Collision Repair Industry participants who generously and meaningfully give service to their communities should be nominated.

PRIDE awards will be presented at the April Collision Concepts event in Minneapolis, at a special PRIDE Night, donated by Collision Concepts. Corporate sponsors of the PRIDE award are: Sherwin-Williams, Akzo Nobel, CCC Information Services, and MOTOR Information Systems.

For more information about PRIDE Month or the upcoming PRIDE awards, visit the NABC website at www.autobodycouncil.org or call 888-66-PRIDE.
