Be a Champion

by Karen Kilbane

In the real world, your business is not judged by an international panel of ice skating judges! This observation comes as no great surprise to collision repair operators, I am sure, even to those who were not glued to their televisions during the Salt Lake City Olympic Games.

The physical and mental preparation involved, the diversity of backgrounds, the choice of competitive arena, the excitement of the contest, the joy of victory - INSIGHT’s feature article this month has it all - not from the Winter Olympics, but from the Collision Repair Industry.

The shop owners INSIGHT interviewed are the "triple jumpers" of our industry in the "Growing the Business" event.

The members of the CIC Parts Committee should probably receive a medal or two for all the work they are doing on the preparation of useful definitions for recycled and LKQ parts. Their next presentation at CIC should be of great use to all segments of the industry. We will be unable to discuss these terms intelligently unless we all accept precisely the same definitions of them.

CAPA and MQVP are in the news this month, with CAPA releasing a comparative report of the two aftermarket parts programs. I for one frankly need to examine these two programs more. Are we comparing apples and oranges here?

I would appreciate hearing from shop owners who have had experience with CAPA and MQVP.

The current issue of Sheila Loftus’s Hammer & Dolly is devoted to the contributions of women in our industry - champions all, of course, from my point of view!

Sheila’s energy, knowledge, and dedication to the Collision Repair Industry could easily win her a gold medal or two - if only we awarded gold medals!
