Points of View (Shared)

by Karen Kilbane

The dreaded Cleveland lake-effect snow has arrived after all here in INSIGHT’s hometown, burying spring flowers and spring fever under a frosty blanket. While the rest of us grumble and look at the calendar in dismay, collision repairers in the midwest are surely smiling at Mother Nature’s unexpected blast of cold at last.

Which brings me to a philosophical perspective: So much in life depends upon your point of view AND upon your willingness to listen to and learn from other points of view.

Both the March CIC meeting in Nashville and Collision Concepts immediately afterwards were noteworthy events because of the willingness and energy that went into presenting and sharing points of view.

At CIC, the recycled part was obviously the point and many views were placed on the discussion table. A panel of knowledgeable participants representing insurers, collision repair facility owners, and recyclers gave us all an interesting lesson in listening and working together to begin to find good solutions.

It will be interesting in the coming months to watch real progress being made, based on this initial good dialogue.

John Yoswick got so interested in a Collision Concepts panel discussion in which shop owners talked about how they compensate their employees that he wrote a feature article about some of the ways they pay. He looks at several how-to-pay points of view in this month’s feature that may expand some horizons for shop owners looking for ideas.

MQVP has replied to CAPA’s comparative report of the two aftermarket parts programs. These two points of view seem so far apart (dare I say ideologically?) that I am in need of a panel of experts to explain both the CAPA and the MQVP positions in what looks to be an ongoing debate of terms.

Get thinking about businesses and individuals to nominate for NABC PRIDE awards. (See page 10 for more information.) Those in our Collision Repair Industry who generously share their time, talent, and treasure all across the USA should be thanked and applauded. We all share this point of view!
