Mother Nature vs Industry Nature

Mother Nature really flexed her muscles during this past month. The devastation left behind by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is almost beyond comprehension. The response of our Collision Repair Industry has been amazing. Donations for hurricane relief have literally poured into the region from businesses in all segments of the industry and from many individuals. This issue of INSIGHT would have to be 100 pages in length to mention all the great work that is being done by people in our industry. INSIGHT is proud of every generous gift given and action taken by each and every contributor.

We tend, by and large, to be a practical bunch, and practical relief is what the industry is offering, through the work of the National Auto Body Council (NABC) and the Collision Industry Foundation (CIF) (See page 17.).

The goal of these national efforts is to make housing and jobs available to Collision Repair Industry workers and their families, who have lost both home and employment. This is the ideal gift suggestion - good for both giver and receiver.

Our feature article is “a little of this and a little of that,” as my grandmother used to say about accummulated odds and ends. I am sure that you will find some useful information and wise suggestions in the mix.

Be sure to read the CIC Report (page 11) about the ongoing frustration over rekeying estimates. The usually affable Lou DiLisio, a member of the CIC Electronic Commerce Committee, voiced the frustration felt by collision repair facility managers nationwide, bluntly telling representatives of the three major estimating system providers (ADP, CCC, and Mitchell) that they must not have even read the special task force’s document detailing specific requests and possible solutions. Yes, the rekeying problem will definitely be around in 2006!
