Do Your To-Do List for 2007

by Karen Kilbane

The start of another year usually involves some resolutions for change, hopefully based on a careful and realistic appraisal of how things are, as of December 31, compared to how we hope to see ourselves after 365 days. The key on January 1st is to take the first step toward whatever goals we have selected toward which to move throughout 2007. Seldom does permanent change occur overnight, and rarely does change come without some effort and discomfort.

Our feature article this month offers some new ideas that we hope will gently prod you to be open to some different opportunities for greater success in your business operation.

Do you have a business plan - not just in your head, but written? Begin your plan today. Grab a pencil, or your laptop, and, in column one, outline your goals for your facility this year. Good planners advise that you list tiny steps (such as cleaning out that old file cabinet) as well as your wildest dreams (like adding another shop or increasing sales by fifty percent).

Next, in several columns, begin to list steps to take toward accomplishing each goal. Some will need only a step or two. Other goals may have many requirements. Some goals may need a first step - research - before any movement can take place at all.

Keep your list handy. For goals that need study and information, add to their steps as you investigate how to get from here to there. Pick out a few goals that can be accomplished quickly. Once each week, reward yourself by taking care of one of these, and checking it off your list. Be sure to check on your progress each week, too. Update your plan with new goals periodically, and evaluate your performance.

Please add this item to your To-Do list: complete the Who Pays for What Survey enclosed in this mailing and get it back to INSIGHT today. Thank you for your input to this valuable survey, and look for results in February.
