The start of another year usually involves some resolutions for change, hopefully based on a careful and realistic appraisal of how things are, as of December 31, compared to how we hope to see ourselves after 365 days. We have extra time in 2008 to work on our resolutions - 24 more hours - because it is a Leap Year. Keeping someone on your payroll who clearly does not add anything positive to your operation is a mistake, yet firing an employee can be a complicated and sometimes costly matter. Our feature article this month offers some practical advice for making a difficult change a little easier and safer.
