Staying Connected

by Karen Kilbane

Our feature article this month specifically addresses jobbers, but the advice presented certainly can assist collision repair shop owners and mangers, too. Read it - and see how much practical information from Doug Kelly, who has worked at the top of several Collision Repair Industry segments, can improve the bottom line wherever you work in this industry.

Nowadays, perhaps more than ever, body shop owners should show this feature article to insurer partners. Underline some key phrases, like “grow your own business by helping your customers grow theirs,” and “if your customers fail, you will fail.”

The basic business premise underlying this excellent article is that no business stands completely alone. Like it or not, the Collision Repair Industry exists as a set of closely-connected relationships. The various industry segments, such as collision repair facilities, insurers, jobbers, paint manufacturers, tool and equipment providers, computer software makers, educators, etc., are best served when their intertwined relationships do not lose sight of the fact that for a business to prosper over the long haul its partner businesses must continue to grow and profit, too.

As an added treat this month, we offer a special feature, “Driving Traffic,” to present our readers with some practical steps to bring your collision repair facilities up to speed on the Internet marketing front. Now that most of your customers surf the Web, and shop online for almost every product and service, your businesses need to build a smooth, clear driveway online - right to your front doors. Don’t miss this essential customer connection.

Well, Daylight Savings Time has arrived early here at INSIGHT’s Cleveland home, but Spring has definitely not sprung yet! I know Winter weather is good for business - but the Indians’ home opener is just a few weeks away. Is it too much to ask for a warm weather connection for at least nine innings?
