Business Tools | This article originally appeared in the September 2008 Issue of INSIGHT Let's Practice Being Practicalby Karen Kilbane
This month’s feature article offers some practical advice for getting through these tough economic times from people in the trenches at collision repair facilities. INSIGHT lists fifteen ways to keep your body shop moving during this economic slow-down. I am sure that you will find several suggestions here that you will want to implement. If you have other ideas, please drop me a line and let me know how your shop is weathering this economic slump. INSIGHT bids a fond farewell to two well-known industry association figures this month. Tom McGee has decided to leave the I-CAR organization to pursue other interests, and Dan Risley has left his position as executive director of SCRS to take a job outside of the association. Both gentlemen deserve the thanks of the Collision Repair Industry for their hard work on our behalf. Companies are stepping up to the plate with the generosity we have come to expect in our industry. State Farm, for example, has added a $60,000 donation to the I-CAR Education Foundation. In INSIGHT’s Cleveland hometown, neighbors Sherwin-Williams and Ernst & Young have each made a $25,000 donation to provide scholarship assistance to local high school students. Is it practical, during difficult economic times, to donate money to scholarship funds? Absolutely! The future demands our attention. We must do everything that we can to prepare our young people to become the trained workers and capable leaders of the next generation. I urge you to be practical now, too.
