Our feature this month highlights one of the tenser areas of debate during 2008 for the Collision Repair Industry - remanufactured wheels. This is by no means the final word on the subject, but does offer some much-needed information. Where has the year gone? I am amazed that December is here already. In this industry, the weather is always a big topic of conversation. Snow and ice storms bring a twinkle to the eyes of collision repair facility managers - and usually more vehicles in need of some tender loving care to their doors. In these trying economic times most of us are hoping for more work. By far the biggest topic of discussion now - even bigger than weather forecasts - is the appearance of Detroit’s Big Three CEOs before Congress, seeking bailout funds for the financially troubled automotive giants. Driving their own hybrid cars into Washington hopefully created a more favorable climate for them at their second scheduled meeting with members of Congress. The three corporate jets used to drop them off a few weeks earlier caused a storm of “They just don’t get it” comments throughout the nation. It seems that GM, Ford, and Chrysler will be given a sizeable chunk of funds from the government, union cooperation, and some Federal overseeing of company restructuring - all geared toward riding out the gloomy financial storm. Hopefully, those of you who attended NACE 2008 came back home with some useful ideas to help your businesses weather the economic turbulence. All of us at INSIGHT wish you and yours a happy and prosperous New Year! oFeedbackHave a comment about this article? Send Email to Editor ©2008 Collision Repair Industry INSIGHT |
