It seems that one New Year’s resolution is already on our list. The New Year brings a new requirement for collision repair facilities. Every shop in the U.S. must file a special notification with the Environmen-tal Protection Agency (EPA). This is the first of several deadlines for shops under a new EPA refinishing regulation that has a compliance deadline of March 2011. Our “Looming Deadline” feature this month is a practical discussion of what we need to understand about this new regulation. See page 11 for a surprising announcement from ASA. NACE 2010 has been moved from the first week in November to October 10 - 13. The event will still take place in Las Vegas, but no longer in conjunction with Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week. The Ohio Board of Motor Vehicle Collision Repair Regis-tration forwarded a very sensible public awareness notice to INSIGHT. See page 16 for the board’s Auto Repair Industry Motorists Bill of Rights. For news from the recently held NACE 2009, read page 13. Mike Condon spoke to the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) about a recently conducted survey of insurers sponsored by BASF. Condon said that insurers believe that the formula used to calculate refinish materials is not an accurate tool. It is always a pleasure to make note of the generosity in our Collision Repair Industry. Read about the success of Recycled Rides during 2009, and about all the industry participants who donated time, talent, and materials to make it happen. Please be sure to complete our annual survey of “Who Pays for What?” Without your input we cannot write the story! All of us at INSIGHT wish all of our readers a wonderful Holiday Season and a very Happy New Year! oFeedbackHave a comment about this article?
