A Buck Can Mean Responsibility AND Money

by Karen Kilbane

Our feature this month is a must-read for all shop owners, because, like it or not, “Where the Buck Stops” is at all of you! In a society that more and more often sees lawsuits over practically anything at all, we all must learn how to protect ourselves and our business assets frum ruin.

Collision Repair Industry business owners have traditionally hesitated to add attorney and accountant consulting fees to their expenses lists. Nowadays, business owners in any industry really need to face the fact that they need expert help, and that the alternative to paying a knowledgeable expert can be financial disaster.

The big news this month is Canada’s largest auto body shop consolidator’s acquisition of a well-known and famously well-run group of collision repair facilities in our Midwest. Read about the Boyd Group’s acquisition of True2Form on page 17.

True2Form’s 37 locations increase the Boyd Group’s U.S. presence considerably, and in new metropolitan markets, too. INSIGHT will continue to follow this breaking news story as it unfolds.

The latest development in the continuing OEM versus non-OEM parts debate can be found on page 12. Are OEM and non-OEM structural parts equal or unequal? Who should test them? Who should be the ultimate judge? Should there be government regulation of the parts or not? How and when will any of us ever be able to settle this thorny issue? I am willing to wager not this year!

See page 19 for an article about the soon-to-be-demonstrated I-CAR role-based training model. I-CAR has really paid attention to its users. It will be interesting to see the outcome.
