Our feature article this month lays out INSIGHT’s wish list of things we would like to see and hear during this New Year of 2011. I know that all of us would like to put - right at the top of the list - winning the lottery and running off to Tahiti - but, let’s face it - that is probably not going to happen this year or ever. The eleven wishes we have made this month should be much more attainable than a big lottery win. The key to success here lies with each of us. I urge you to select at least one or two items on INSIGHT’s wish list that are important to you and your business, and then be determined to make these wishes realities. Results that we would like to see during 2011 cannot come about unless we take the steps needed. Many of these wish list items will demand serious and coordinated group efforts. If you are not already a member of one or more Collision Repair Industry association, resolve to join a group and become actively supportive of its goals. Be sure to check out our annual Market Watch Review on pages 12 and 13. How do your shop’s rates and allowances compare to the national averages? Another question that always comes to mind when looking at the numbers posted for these major metropolitan markets from all corners of the nation is: Why is there such a wide variation in refinish paint and materials allowances from area to area? Gary Ledoux, the Assistant National Manager for American Honda’s Wholesale Parts Marketing department, has begun to write the history of the Collision Repair Industry in America, and he is asking for input. Read more on page 17. I am sure that this great idea will evolve into a fascinating page-turner and a valuable piece of history.
