Our feature article this month looks at the tentative nurturing of relationships among collision repairers, insurers, state governments, and legislatures. Collision repairs have traditionally been reluctant to press for or against proposed bills regulating business activity, especially knowing that big insurers have big pockets full of money and lawyers, and plenty of time to hang around judges’ and legislators’ offices. I can think of no collision repair facility that can - alone - afford the cost of supporting even a single full-time person to keep up on legal and legislative activity. Ah, yes, I am once again urging all Collision Repair Industry participants to PARTICIPATE. What is out of reach for one shop can be an attainable goal for a group of facilities that get together and share information and contribute funds when needed. Keeping up with cutting-edge technology in this day and age requires constant reaction to change, or at least one teen-ager. See page 3 for information about online vehicle auction company Copart’s newest web wizardry - an iPhone app that lets users sell their cars with a phone app, aptly named “Copart Sell My Car.” Regional collision repair facility consolidator Service King has acquired the eight-location Alamo Body and Paint. Service King now operates 42 repair facilities in the Lone Star State. Read more on page 6. Be sure to read about the NABC’s plans to make the council’s popular Recycled Rides initiative even bigger and better this year, on page 19.
