It has been a pretty nice month for our Collision Repair Industry stocks on Wall Street this month. Only two of our general stocks and two of our insurer stocks were off their New Year’s Day marks - and only slightly. Yes, I like a nice calm time. It is good for my digestion. The per share price of Copart stock outshone all others this month. At $44.80, Copart was up nearly 20 percent YTD. Our refinish manufacturers showed some positive movement this month on Wall Street. Akzo Nobel has shown some really impressive positive movement at the Dow after a rather long slow time. With a per share stock price of $72.39, Akzo wins Most Improved in my book, up over 16 percent above its January posting. Valspar continues to be an impressive stock to watch. At just a hair under $39.00, the paint manufacturer’s per share price is up 12 percent YTD. Meanwhile, PPG continues to bring a smile to my face, with a per share stock price $6.00 above last month’s mark. Of our auto sellers, AutoNation out-performed the other major national dealership consolidators, posting a per share price of jost under $33.00, up a sweet 16 percent or so YTD. Penske Automotive Group held steady at the Dow this month. Its per share stock price of $19.27 dropped barely at all from last month’s mark, down just two cents. The Boyd Group has been performing very well at the Toronto Stock Exchange. The North American collision repair facility consolidator has consistently improved its per share stock price each month so far in 2011. At $9.15 Cdn, Boyd’s posting is over 21 percent above its year-opening mark of $7.56 Cdn. Also, the Boyd Group continues to be in the market for regional groups of repair shops, both in Canada and in the U.S. Determined yet careful growth is a major goal, it seems to me, for at least the next couple of years. Speaking of cars - I am sure that collision repairers across the country are hoping that Americans hit the road for vacation trips this summer despite the record-breaking prices at the gas pumps. Filling up my car’s tank is driving me crazy! I almost hesitate to write this, but as a sports fan in Cleveland I feel obligated to note that finally there is reason to rejoice here - The Cleveland Indians are actually currently holding onto first place in their division. Go Team!
