McMurray & Archibald was established in Perth as a coachbuilder in 1908 and has developed and changed from manufacturing and exporting horse-drawn traps, through to manufacturing fire engines (including periods during both World Wars when H.M. Government took control and ambulances were built), to auto body repair. All this has been under the management of three generations of the Archibald family (Mr. McMurray having departed around 1910).
The firm moved to large new premises in Edinburgh Road some eight years ago and business has grown steadily. An Inverness body shop was acquired some seven years ago and has moved to larger premises just recently. In December, 1994, the firm acquired further large body shop premises in Shore Road, Perth.
The company has been going from strength to strength with a reputation for a high standard of automotive repair backed by approximately thirty of the country's leading insurers and accident management groups.
Michael Archibald, the establishment's Managing Director, is INSIGHT's United Kingdom correspondent. Mr. Archibald's UK Report is featured in each month's issue, keeping our readers up on the state of the collision repair industry across the waters.
